In a recent case at the Freetown courts, Victor Koroma, aged 55, was sentenced to five years imprisonment for the theft of a Bajaj motorcycle valued at NLe 33,608. The theft occurred on August 20, 2025, at #8 Jordan Drive, Lumley, in the Western Area, with the motorcycle belonging to Abu Marrah.
Despite Koroma’s plea of not guilty, the court relied on substantial evidence presented by the prosecution, including eyewitness accounts and supporting documentation. The judge also took into account Koroma’s prior criminal record, which revealed a previous eight-year prison sentence and an escape during a prior prison break.
Magistrate Sao Mamakoh Betty Kallon highlighted that the seriousness of the crime, coupled with Koroma’s history of criminal activity, justified a custodial sentence rather than alternative punishments. The ruling serves as a strong deterrent against repeat offenders and emphasizes the judiciary’s commitment to protecting private property and upholding the law.
