The Sierra Leone Police (SLP) in Port Loko have stepped up their operations against the illegal use and distribution of drugs such as Kush, Tramadol, and Cannabis, leading to fresh arrests and the recovery of suspected narcotics.

EtThe Sierra Leone Police in Port Loko District have intensified their ongoing crackdown on illegal drugs as part of the nationwide campaign against Kush, Tramadol, and Cannabis abuse.

In a recent operation led by Chief Superintendent of Police (CSP) A. A. Fambulleh, officers raided several targeted locations believed to be hotspots for drug activities. During the operation, two suspects — Giberilla Kamara and Hassan Sesay — were apprehended with a substantial quantity of dried leaves suspected to be Cannabis sativa.

According to police reports, the arrests form part of a broader strategy to curb the rising wave of drug abuse and trafficking that continues to endanger the lives of young people across Sierra Leone. The seized substances have been taken in as evidence while investigations continue to identify the source and distribution network of the drugs.

Speaking after the successful operation, CSP Fambulleh reaffirmed the Sierra Leone Police’s commitment to ensuring a drug-free Port Loko and urged community members to cooperate by providing credible information that can help track down suppliers and users.

“The fight against drug abuse is not just a police duty — it’s a shared national responsibility,” CSP Fambulleh emphasized.

The SLP has continued to strengthen its collaboration with community leaders, youth groups, and local authorities to raise awareness about the dangerous health and social impacts of drug addiction, particularly the destructive effects of Kush among the country’s youth.

As the nationwide campaign intensifies, the Sierra Leone Police are calling on all citizens to remain vigilant and report any suspicious drug-related activity to the nearest police station.
